San Marco 2023
The finished wine, aged 22 months in mostly new French oak barrels, is very approachable, with well developed tannins, balanced acidity and medium body. Alcohol by volume is 13.1%. A rich dark color is a hallmark contributed by its parent grapes. Aromas of bramble fruits, anise and sage are followed by flavors of deep purple plum, black berries, currants, fennel, cedar, woodsy notes of humidor, sage, oregano, basil and black pepper. The texture is enhanced by a light creaminess and a hint of dusty tannins. The finish is clean and pleasant. San Marco is extremely food-friendly and delicious paired with meats and cheeses. Lamb lasagna, Thanksgiving turkey and stuffing, and Osso Bucco come to mind as meal pairing suggestions. Since the varietal is so new, the enjoyment of finding the perfect foods to serve with it awaits the afficionado.
Pairing suggestions : Dried Meats, Venison, Osso Bucco
